Consultation

Hi fellow downhills. Well what can I say. I had my consultation yesterday and my journey on the great slalom ended up off piste.

He asked me how I felt and you know something is not right when despite their attempt at humour is masking something. To cut a long story short Brian has come back. A kick in the nads true. Basically he is now inoperable as instead of being a solid planet it was morphed into one of Saturn’s rings. The Dr says he has spoken to the consultants at QEHB and the risk of removing it is far greater than doing nothing. So I am starting chemotherapy treatment in the next few weeks.

The worry is the chemo can affect my platelets so will be having blood tests regularly. So appears the reason my Dr didn’t tell me over the phone was because they wanted to do it face to face.

Consultant also mentioned my cholesterol was a little high so needed to watch myself. Bloody C’s peeing me off. Covid, Cholesterol and Cancer. So no processed foods, no alcohol, no life really. I don’t think so whats it going to do kill me. 😕 as they say “there are many reasons for drinking and one has just entered my head, if a person can’t drink when they’re living, how the hell can they drink when they’re dead”.

I did ask about getting my driving licence back, as I had to surrender it due to seizure and brain tumour a shake of consultants head put that to bed. Was upset by that more than the diagnosis.

We are not in crisis land yet, as Dr has said if the chemo fails to step up, they have other weapons in their arsenal. Obviously surgery not one of them.

That is my rant over so good luck to you all.

Cancervissary

Where do I start. Well the beginning of this chapter would be good I guess. The Dr didn’t ring so we rang the surgery to be told he was off but they would arrange for another Dr to call be back.

The Dr rang to say he has been told to ring me back and how could he help me. I explained the questions I had asked his colleague and the response was I will have to read your notes and call me back.

He did ring back but in answer to my questions said speak to your oncologist when you see him. So no further forward there.

I received a phone call 📲 from the hospital to advise my consultant has changed and I have a new one. This one has brought my appointment froward to the 14th July instead of the end of the end and it will be face to face instead of phone consultation. This is the 4th different consultant I have seen. If this one says “tell me what has happened” I will lose it. Brian is close to boiling over.

I hope no one else is experiencing problems with their local health authority. Take care everyone.

2 years ago today

Hello everyone. I hope you⁸ are all OK? Well it is 2 years ago today since I had my seizure and was rushed to hospital to be told I had a brain 🧠 tumour. Later that night I was transferred to Birmingham QE hospital to be told they didn’t think it was a tumour but an access. Antibiotics were used to reduce it.

My actual cancervissary is 10th July as this was when it was diagnosed and still going strong. So do not listen to those words from the consultant that life span is 12 to 15 months, that is a generic time frame. I was told that and am now on 24 months. Everyone is different so fight everyday.

I had my bloods taken nearly 2 weeks ago, remember the rescheduling due to it being a fasting blood test. Well I had it and waited for results as Dr was ringing me to discuss a week yesterday but could not say when exactly. (Appreciate they are busy). Our lass rang the surgery at 17.45 to enquire about the call from the dr and the receptionist said he will ring. At 19.00 our lass rang again to hear voice mail saying surgery is now closed. Eventually at 19.30 Dr rang.

He said my blood sugar levels are a bit high and he would e mail me some leaflets about how to reduce it. I then asked about my MRI results and about changing my dexamethazone as advised to me by my consultant. He then replied he was not aware of the change of meds, but he saw mention of it in my notes. He said he would speak to the consultant and would have to call me back in a few days and hung up.

As we hadn’t heard anything by last Thursday we rang the surgery again to be told no Dr’s are in today, I enquired about the following day but was told no Dr was off then as well. So wasted call, no e mail leaflet and non the wiser what is going on.

To say peed off is an understatement and my consultant call is not until the end of this month. I know long winded moan sorry but not everyone understands. To cap it all I received a letter saying you appear not to have had your covid jab (I have had both) and to contact them to arrange.

Rant over. Sorry about that. I hope everyone is feeling well or as good as you can be and keep on England for the game today.

Bloods

Hi everyone. Yesterday I was supposed to had my bloods taken however having read the form it turned up it was a fasting blood test and the appointment was not until lunchtime. Now I am a normal bloke and there is no way I could wait till then without eating. So I rescheduled for 0950 today. I have just got back after having had them taken and am now Hank Marvin (starving) for those not conversant with Cockney rhyming slang.

Enough of me, how is everyone else? What have people been upto? How have you kept yourselves occupied? Has anyone taken up a new hobby or returned to a former one.

Today is England vs Scotland in the Euro’s tonight, I know I am biased so would like to see the Angles beating the Picts. Come on 3 lions do the nation proud.

Everyone stay safe and I leave you with a top tip. If you wear contact lenses and keep losing them drill a hole through each lens and thread them either end of a fishing line and wear round your neck. Hey presto never lost again.
